Determination of Magnolol and Honokiol in the Herb of Magnolia officinalis by Fluorescence Spectrophotometry

A fluorescence analytical method is developed for the determination of magnolol and honokiol in Magnolia officinalis. The influence of coexistent impurities in the extraction solution of sample on the determination may be eliminated by use of liquid-liquid extraction method. The spectral and background interference for the analytical results can be deducted with an employable compensating process if the calibrated wavelength chosen is suitable. The method has been applied to the determination of magnolol and honokiol in Magnolia officinalis. The relative standard deviations of five detections are 3.97% for magnolol 2.67% for honokiol, and recoveries are 102.67% for magnolol 101.43% for honokiol, respectively.
