The rate of hydrodesulfunzation at 7.0 MPa on a presulrided NiMo/Al2O3 catalyst was markedly increased by the presence of quinoline at 260°C, but moderately decreased at 360°C. Ammonia had no effect on the rate, at partial pressures studied up to 96 kPa. Both nitrogen compounds suppressed formation of partially hydrogenated products. The accelerating effect of quinoline may be caused by its reducing the competitive adsorption of strongly adsorbed products.
