In active populations, heat illness remains a cause of exercise-related injury and death. There is evidence that hyponatremia also occurs, but less often than heat illness. Incidence rates of these conditions are determined by the population at risk and individual susceptibilities. Improved strategies are needed to identify high-risk individuals who are likely to develop either hyponatremia or heat illness.
