Abstract The morphological change of pure and carbon black loaded butyl rubber vulcanizates with elongation was studied by an electron microscopical method. The main noticeable observations were as follows. The number of cavities increases with the increase of elongation. The shape of cavities grows into longer spindle one with the increase of elongation. Carbon black aggregates break down with the increase of elongation. It is concluded that there are two types of cavitations in carbon black loaded rubber vulcanizates.
