Dynamic Rating Technology Approach for Real-Time Monitoring of Overhead Transmission Lines

Current paper introduces the Romanian innovative solution for online monitoring system of high voltage overhead power lines, a smart grid technology.The online monitoring system uses sensors for online measurement of power line operating parameters (conductor current, conductor tilt angle/sag, conductor mechanical tension, conductor temperature, tower inclination, conductor oscillations, etc.) and ambient weather parameters (solar irradiation, environment temperature, wind speed and direction), for optimization of the high-voltage electrical network by using DLR (dynamic line rating) application. The paper describes the hardware of the OHLM system, emphasizing also on the developed software.
