The Global Burden of Disease Study – a kidney disease data base

 Over the past 30+ years, the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study has provided increasingly precise and detailed es mates of disease frequency and burden. In GBD2021, these es mates include chronic kidney disease (CKD) incidence, prevalence, mortality, and burden and the level of exposure and burden of the accompanying risk factor kidney dysfunc on. The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study employs sophis cated models that metaanalyze the available data, ensuring the genera on of consistent and reliable es mates of disease across na ons. Where data are scarce, the GBD models metrics by borrowing informa on from other countries and adjus ng it for the country in ques on´s level of factors known to cause variability in CKD prevalence and mortality.
