Objective To investigate the changes of value when blood pressure is measured in differnt body positions. Methods 100 subjects were selected and their blood pressure was measured in both sitting and lying positions, which were alternated randomly. The outcome of the measurement was statistically analyzed. Results Both systolic pressure and diastolic pressure of the lying position were higher than those of the sitting position. The difference was highly significant. The effect on the ≥55 years group was smaller than it was on the 55 years group(P0.05).Conclusion The value of non-invasive blood pressure measurement derived from the lying position is higher than the sitting position. The effect of the body position decreases with the rise of age.
