Effect of DBDPE/Sb_2O_3 Flame Retardant on the Flame Retardancy and Mechanical Properties of ABS

Flame retardant ABS was prepared with decabromodiphenylane(DBDPE)and trioxide-dis- tibium(Sb_2O_3)as flame retardants.The effects of flame retardant ratio and contents on the mechanical and retardant properties of ABS were studied.When the content of the compound flame retardant ex- ceeds 16 phr,in which the weight ratio of DBDPE to Sb_2O_3 was 4:1,a grade of UL94 V-0 was achieved.The content of flame retardants had a serious effect on the impact strength,but not on other mechanical properties.When the ABS matrix contained 15～20 phr grafted ABS and 20 phr flame retar- dant,the Izod impact strength increased by 220% and retardant properties slightly decreased.When the same content of SEBS was added instead of grafted ABS,however,the Izod impact strength didn't increase and retardant properties seriously decreased.
