Four kinds of new routes for synthesis of diphenyl carbonate, including the transesterification of dimethyl oxalate
with phenol, the transesterification of dimethyl carbonate with phenyl acetate, the esterification of (substituted)urea with phenol,
the synthesis of carbon disulfur with phenol by the metal induction, are reviewed in detail, and catalysts and reaction conditions
are discussed with emphasis. At the same time, three coupling routes, which are the synthesis of dimethyl oxalate combined with
the transesterification of dimethyl oxalate with phenol, the alcoholysis of urea combined with the transesterification of dialkyl car-
bonate and high-temperature decomposition coupled with transesterification of dimethyl carbonate with phenyl acetate, are intro-
duced, with advantages over the traditional ones.
