Aiming at the special commutation problem of two-stage matrix converter (TSMC), a commutation strategy is studied, which makes TSMC work safely and reliably. The commutation principle was deduced with an experimental setup. At last, an experimental prototype was established based on XE164+CPLD. The experimental results indicate that the four-step commutation is a safe and reliable commutation method, which would not affect the input and output performance, but also makes TSMC work safely and reliably.
