Covalently cross-linked based polyvinyl alcohol/carboxymethyl cellulose (PVA/CMC) hydrogel was developed by the cross-linking between PVA and CMC in the presence of catalyst without using any cross-linker. A comparative study of polymeric hydrogel, PVA and CMC was carried out in term of thermal stability, water absorption behaviour in different pH and temperature. The result of TGA indicates that the thermal stability of polymeric hydrogel is improved as compared to non cross-linked polymer. Further, in this study, we revealed that how the water absorption capacity (WAC) of a polymeric network hydrogel affects by ester-linkage.
