The signification of CFD to the design and optimization of metallurgical furnaces and thermal facilities is introduced briefly. The fluid flow, combustion and heat transfer of a regenerative reheating furnace is numerically simulated in 3-D by using the κ-e model, combined with Mixed Burning Model, Radiation Model and NO x Molel. The results indicate that the flow pattern and the distribution of temperature and concentration in the regenerative reheating furnace are favorable to satisfy the high quality requirements of reheating.
