A method is explored for the determination of dimethylamine and diethylamine, two volatile components in environmental water samples,by headspace-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(HS-GC/MS).The contents of the samples are determined by external standard method. The results show that the linearity of dimethylamine and diethylamine is good over the concentration range of 1.80-35.90(mg/L) to 1.42-28.40(mg/L),with correlation coefficients of 0.9993 and 0.9968 respectively. The lowest detection limits for dimethylamine and diethylamine were 0.09(mg/L) and 0.12(mg/L) respectively. The average recovery rate of spiked water samples was 85.92%-116.08%,and the RSD was 5.47% and 2.00%.It indicated that HS-GC/MS is suitable for the detection of dimethylamine and diethylamine in water environment.
