Detection of coinfection of porcine circovirus type 2 with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus

The isolations of porcine circovirus type 2(PCV-2) and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus(PRRSV) were carried out from twenty-four clinical samples(lung,spleen,kidney,and lymph node) collected from disease pigs on a pig farm of Tianshui Prefecture in Gansu Province.PCR and designed RT-PCR was set up for detection of PCV-2 and PRRSV,respectively with specificly designed primers.To investigate the coinfection of PCV-2 with PRRSV,serum samples from the pig farm were examined with ELISA.Specific fragments of PCV-2 and PRRSV were amplified from 14 clinical samples by the PCR and RT-PCR,and the ELISA results were also positive for both PCV-2 and PRRSV.The results showed that the coinfection of PCV-2 with PRRSV was prevalent on the farm and the percentage of coinfection was 58.33%.
