Abstract Reaction of the lithium salts of the alcohols (I) with PCl3 yields ‐ in dependence on the stoichiometry of the reactants ‐ either the dichlorophosphinites (II) or the chlorophosphonites (IV); both undergo N2O4 oxidation to the dichlorophosphinates (III) or to the chlorophosphonates (Va).
