Effect of Sulfite on the Chemiluminescence of Luminol in the Absence of Co-Oxidizer and Its Analytical Application

A chemiluminescence(CL) flow system is described for the determination of sulfite based on the chemiluminescence(CL) emission produced upon mixing a sulfite solution with an alkaline luminol solution sensitized by rhodamine 6G. The system responds linearly to sulfite concentration in the range 0 052 μg/mL with a detection limit (3 σ ) of 0 04 μg/mL and relative standard deviation(RSD) of 2.1% for 0.5 μg/mL sulfite ( n =11). The system has been successfully applied to the determination of total sulfite in wines.
