摘要
agents enhance any topical acne regimen and allow for maintaining clearance after discontinuation of oral therapy [5].According to the Global Alliance Acne Treatment Algorithm, topical retinoids are indicated in most cases of acne as first line treatment, alone or in combination with other medications depending on the severity of the condition [3].Topical retinoids have been used in patients with acne for their ability to reduce hyper-seborrhea by inhibiting the proliferation and differentiation of sebocytes and by inducing the normalization of cornification through regulation of keratinocyte proliferation. Its use may be limited by a number of side effects including dryness, peeling, erythema, and photosensitization. This lack of tolerance to retinoids may lead to poor adherence and may be an important factor in acne treatment failure. The emergence of antibiotic resistance has been a growing concern for the past decades. This particularly concerns macrolides, clindamycin and tetracyclines [6].It is important to reduce antibiotic use due to the rapid development of bacterial resistance. To avoid this, the Global Alliance recommends the use of topical retinoids to replace topical antibiotics as first line therapy.
