Objective:To study the feasibility, reliability and utility of the model of poststroke depression(PSD).Methods:A PSD rat model was set up on the base of focal cerebral ischemia by means of middle cerebral artery occlusion, followed by isolated feed and restraint stress. The consumption of sucrose water and the change of animal behavior were observed and the high performance liquid phase-electrochemical was used to detect the biogenic monoamine neurotransmitter content in the hypothalamus area. Results:The consumption of sucrose water of the model rat decreased significantly in comparison to that of the controls(P0.01),and the spontaneous behavior of the model rats decreased significantly in comparison to that of the controls(P0.01 or 0.05),and the level of NE,5-HT,DA in the hypothalamus area decreased(P0.01 or 0.05).Conclusion:The restrainted rat model set up on the basis of cortical infarction of middle cerebral artery occlusion is an ideal animal model of poststroke depression for further researches.
