Determination of 3 major fatty acids in fatty oil of Chinese gall by GC

OBJECTIVE To assay lauric acid, myristic acid and palmitic acid in the fatty oil of Chinese gall by GC, for evaluating the quality of the fatty oil of Chinese gall. METHODS The separation was carried out on a 3m×3mm I. D. vycor gas column, coated with DEGS at 8% spreading concentration. Column temperature was at 185℃. The laurie acid, myristic acid and palmitic acid were quantified by external standard method. RESULTS The standard curves of lauric acid, myristic acid and palmitic acid were linear within the range of 10.6~63.6, 5.2~31.2, 2.7~16.2μg and the coefficient were 0.999 6, 0.999 8,0.9997, respectivly. The three fatty acid recoveries were 98.7%, 97.7%, 98.6% and the RSD were 2.09%, 1.20% and 2.04% individually. CONCLUSION This method is sensitive, accurate and reliable. It can be used for the quality control of the fatty oil of Chinese gall and its products.
