Test of introduced forage varieties of Pennisetum in the south subtropics

Test of introduced 6 varities of Pennisetum was conducted in Doumen area of Zhuhai city. The result showed that, the number of internodes of P. americanum ×P. purpureum were the least and the tillers were the most; plant height of P. purpureum ×P. typhoideum cv. Reyan No. 4 was the tallest, and the internodes were the most; the fresh grass yield (370 683.9 kg·hm-2·year-1) was the highest in P. purpureum (MT-1) and the lowest (214 286.8 kg·hm-2·year-1) in P. purpureum cv. Mott. The fresh grass yield of P. purpureum (MT-1) was 72.98% higher than that in P. purpureum cv. Mott. The leaf/stem ratio of P. purpureum cv. Mott was the highest (0.79), contrasted to P. americanum ×P. purpureum and P. purpureum . The others have no distinct differences.
