Objective To evaluate the role of lumbosacral nerve root magnetic resonance neurography in the detection of compression of nerve roots caused by lumbar disc herniation.Materials and Methods Lumbosacral nerve root magnetic resonance neurographic findings in 65 cases with lumbar disc herniation were analyzed.Results Lumbosacral nerve root and dorsal root ganglion of all cases showed high signal on lumbosacral nerve root magnetic resonance neurography.Magnetic resonance neurography demonstrated compression of only one nerve root in 64.9% of disc herniations,compression of two spinal nerve roots in 17.0%,compression of multiple nerve roots in 7.4%,and compression of only dural sac in 10.7%.Conclusion Lumbosacral nerve root magnetic resonance neurography could demonstrate the course of lumbosacral nerve root and compression of nerve roots caused by disc herniation.
