Investigation and analysis of health resources for malaria control and prevention in Hainan Province

Objective To understand the health resources and existing problems on malaria prevention and treatment in high and low malaria endemic areas in Hainan Province. Methods To investigate and train the malaria control workers of 18 towns or farms with malaria epidemic in Wuzhishan City and QiongHai City, so as to master the situations of malaria control workwers, equipments, skills, training, funds and existing problems. Results The possessing rate of clinic per administrative village, the covering rate of blood microscopy, the possessing rate of microscopic test station per township or farm, the training rate of village doctors on malaria knowledge and skill in Wuzhishan City and Qionghai City were 33.43% and 44.29%, 54.83% and 26.30%, 100% and 75%, 8.70% and 22.82%, respectively. The examined results of the village doctors between before and after training were significantly different in the 2 cities. The major problems were lack of funds for malaria control, unstable staff for malaria control, no systematic training, et al. Conclusion The health resources of malaria prevention and treatment are seriously insufficient in the base level, it is urgent to enlarge the investment on the aspect by the various governments.
