摘要
ABSTRACT The development of new materials holds the key to unveiling the potential of sub‐nanowires (SNWs). Currently, most reported SNWs are composed of ionic bonds and prepared via interaction balancing. These synthetic strategies render the SNWs intrinsically hydrophobic, which consequently limits their processability. Here, we systematically analyzed the chemical toolbox governing SNW construction, identifying metal‐thiolate systems as a promising platform for the fabrication of water‐soluble SNWs, or specifically denoted as coordination quantum wires (CQWs). Specifically, water‐soluble AuAg x ‐mercaptopropionic acid CQWs were synthesized by confining growth within worm‐like micelles. The CQWs exhibit a narrower emission peak and a much stronger emission compared to their lamellar counterparts. Leveraging their aqueous stability, these CQWs were processed into hydrogels, aerogels, and films. Owing to their unique topological features, the CQW films exhibit an elastic modulus comparable to that of polypropylene. Furthermore, the CQWs demonstrate composition‐dependent thermal quenching luminescence. Exploiting these features, we hybridized the CQWs with various dyes to develop aqueous‐phase encrypted inks and functional films. As a proof‐of‐concept, we demonstrated high‐sensitivity ratiometric temperature sensing and advanced information encryption. This work provides a rational framework for extending the chemical scope of SNWs and highlights the transformative potential of aqueous‐based processing for inorganic nanomaterials.
