摘要
Fad diets are known by their short-lived popularity and often claims of rapid weight loss. Fad diets are a popular yet controversial approach to weight management and health improvement. These diets frequently promise quick results by promoting unconventional or restrictive eating patterns. This review explores various types of fad diets, their characteristics, and their impact on health. Common fad diets are low-carbohydrate diets low fat diets, intermittent fasting diet, paleo diet, DASH diet, Gluten free diet, The Mediterranean diet, Vegan diet. The long-term efficacy and safety of certain fad diets are still in doubt, despite the fact that they may provide temporary weight loss and initial health advantages. Low-carb diets, like the ketogenic diet, are linked to quick weight reduction and better metabolic parameters, but if not followed correctly, they can also cause gastrointestinal problems, dietary deficiencies, and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Low-fat diets might unintentionally result in an overabundance of refined carbs, despite their goal of lowering fat intake for cardiovascular health. Initial health benefits like weight loss and improved glycaemic control may arise from following fad diets, but restrictive patterns can harm metabolism, encourage disordered eating behaviours, and cause psychological discomfort. The lack of a balanced and sustainable dietary approach is a critical limitation of most fad diets. This review emphasizes the importance of evidence-based nutrition practices for long-term health. Health professionals should guide individuals toward balanced eating patterns rather than short-term, unsustainable solutions offered by fad diets. This review paper consists of recent research from both International and Indian journals to critically examine the types, and multifaceted health impacts of these dietary regimens. The paper concludes by advocating for a shift from short-term, restrictive dieting to a holistic and sustainable approach to nutrition, supported by professional guidance.
