A Pilot-scale Biofilter System to Reduce Odor from Swine Operation

This study was conducted to reduce rate of ammonia gas and hydrogen sulfide gas that is offensive odor of main ingredient in swine housing. We have chosen filling-up mixture materials that have excellent deodorization ability through chaff of pine and perlite mixture. The pilot-scale biofilter system was designed and produced according to microorganisms living conditions and by automatic controlling programs, after then we inoculated to mixture filter bed materials to test the performance of a removal rate of odor. As a result, a removal rate of odor of ammonia gas was average 95.6% and a removal rate of odor of hydrogen sulfide gas was average 82.4% in pilot-scale biofilter system.
