On the concept of the resilient machine

In this paper, we propose a new design concept for machine systems called resilient machine. We elaborate this concept in the context of two known concepts (i.e., reliability and robustness) in machine systems. We also propose a general architecture of resilient machines and propose three design principles for them. Several examples of resilient machines based on our definition are also shown in this paper.
