Objective To evaluate the impact of methods of urinary management on reconstructing urinary function and urinary tract infection(UTI) in patients with spinal cordinjury(SCI).Methods Seventy-seven patients with complete spinal cord injury coming from clinical unit to rehabilitation training first were grouped by the timing of pulling out catheter and beginning intermittent catheterization.Fourty-five patients in observation group were pulled out catheter and began intermittent catheterization 4 weeks after hospital admission.Thirty-two patents in control group were pulled out catheter and began intermittent cathete-rization 5-10 weeks after hospital admission. Results Thirty-five patients in observation group had reconstructed urinary function, ten patients occurred urinary tract infection, and nineteen patients in control group had reconstructed urinary function, ten patients occurred urinary tract infection. Conclusion After SCI,the catheter should be discharged and patients should begin intermittent catheterization as soon as possible. It will be helpful to reconstruct urinary function as well as preventing urinary tract infection.
