Lossy compression of images corrupted by spatially correlated noise

Lossy compression is widely used in practice of image processing. However, noise present in images is not always taken into account in lossy compression and evaluation of its performance. Spatially correlated noise is considered even more rarely. This paper addresses just this case showing that there are certain peculiarities typical for it. Possible presence of optimal operation point is demonstrated for high intensity noise. Several techniques of lossy compression including standard and modern ones are analyzed. Their advantages and drawbacks are studied.
