Objective To investigate the role of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF)in the pathogenesis and postoperative recurrence of chronic subdural haematoma(CSDH).Method The concentrations of VEGF and bFGF in haematoma fluid and serum were determined by ELISA in40patients with CSDH.Results The concentrations of VEGF and bFGF were significantly increased in the haematoma fluid as compared with that in the serum(P0.01).The concentrations of VEGF and bFGF in the recurrent haematoma were significantly higher than that in non-recurrent haematoma(P0.01).Conclusion VEGF and bFGF may play an important role in the pathogenesis and postopertive recurrence of CSDH.
