Degradation of Collagen by Hydroxyl Radical Produced by Fenton Reaction

The degradation effect of hydroxyl radical produced by Fenton reaction was studied using type I collagen. There was no degradation happened in collagen using H2O2, Fe2+ , O2-· respectively. But, collagen was degraded by hydroxyl radical using Fenton reaction consisted of H2O2 and Fe 2+. The degradation effect was enhanced by increasing concentration of hydroxyl radical ( concentration of H2O2 + Fe2+ ). But hydroxyl radical was produced in a very short time, the degradation effect decreased while the time of reaction prolonged.
