Gemma Lewis: reducing the rising burden of adolescent depression and anxiety

Globally, around one in seven adolescents (14%) aged 10–19 years has a mental health condition such as depression or an anxiety disorder, and these first occurrences can set the scene for mental health problems in later adulthood. It is therefore an important period for studying the causes and prevention of depression and anxiety, a field that Gemma Lewis, associate professor in psychiatric epidemiology at University College London (UCL; London, UK), has been researching in depth for more than 15 years.
