This paper presents the main results on the development of a skull method of scintillation crystals growth. The general scheme of the growth technique including some details of the setup construction are presented. The implementation of the skull method both on laboratory and industrial scale levels is illustrated. On the example of NaI(Tl), it is shown that, despite being crystallized by the skull technique in the form of polycrystals, its functional characteristics are the same as in crystals produced by the conventional techniques. As a result, the skull method appears to be a promising alternative to conventional crystal growth methods.
