摘要
In this chapter, we discussed about the recent advances in the synthesis and applications of chloroarenes. After an overview on the production and uses of industrially relevant chloroarene derivatives, a compilation of existing approaches to chloroaromatics is presented. Although conventional chlorination of arenes is a well-established transformation that has been studied in great detail in many textbooks, current challenges have driven scientists to design new strategies (e.g. reagents, chlorinating systems, catalysts, reaction media, electrochemical, photochemical, and continuous flow methods) that can address the need for efficiency and sustainability. Discussion on the scope and limitations of the existing methods for the chlorination of aromatic rings is also provided. Finally, this chapter ends with a selection of recent applications of chloroarenes and future directions in this field.
