Shotgun metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) is widely used to detect pathogens in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). However, mNGS is complex and expensive. This study explored the feasibility of targeted next-generation sequencing (tNGS) in distinguishing lower respiratory tract infections in clinical practice.
