Norwegian doctors have broken their tradition of cooperating with the government to ensure healthcare provision for Norway's remotest regions, because of a controversial ruling that excludes Norwegian doctors from some specialist posts.
At the annual conference of the Norwegian Medical Association in Bergen last week, doctors unanimously agreed that if the government fails to respect doctors' employment interests, the association will withdraw cooperation from the agreement that regulates the number of specialists allowed to practise in each area.
