Screening of marine bacteria with antimicrobial activity

The 480 strains of marine bacteria, including 150 strains of spore bacteria and 108 strains of Escherichia coli , were isolated from marine sediments,organisms and seawater collected from different sea areas. These strains were screened for antimircobial active strains using the method of PAPER DISC DIFFUSION. The result shows that 117 strains of marine bacteria (about 24.4% of the total strains isolated) have antimicrobial activity. Among them, 17.1% of common bacteria strains, 27.3% of spore bacteria strains, 35.2% of E. coli strains have antimicrobial activity. The proportion of antimicrobial active strains are closely correlated with sample collections. And the antibacterial spectra of all classes of marine bacteria are greatly different.
