[Objective] The research aimed to provide the basic parameters for the high-density culture of Chlorella vulgaris and the development of metabolic products with high added value.[Method]Growth and physiological characteristics of Chlorella vulgaris of different nutrition modes were examined.[Result] The biomass of Chlorella vulgaris under heterotrophic and mixotrophic cultivation was respectively 3.2 and 4.0 times under autotrophic growth. The absorption of glucose was corresponding to the growth state.Compared with autotrophic growth, under heterotrophic and mixtrophic cultivation, the content of protein and soluble carbohydrate decreased, whereas the content of total lipid increased. The chlorophyll content and the exciting energy distribution value of PSII / PSI of Chlorella vulgaris in heterotrophic and mixotrophic cultivation were decreased.[Conclusion] Mixotrophy had potential application prospect in Chlorella vulgaris cultivation with high density and high lipid content.
