The influence of chronotype, personality, sex, and sleep duration on Facebook addiction of university students in Turkey

In this study, the aim was to investigate the relationship between chronotype, personality, sex, and sleep duration with Facebook addiction (FA). A cross-sectional survey model was used in the research, and the participants included 981 university students from Sakarya in Turkey. As a result, chronotype, personality, and sex variables were found to be significant predictors of FA. This study concluded that men with eveningness chronotype were more frequently addicted to Facebook. Upon examining personality traits, while conscientiousness, agreeableness, and openness to experience were significant predictors of FA, extraversion and neuroticism were not. Another finding of the study was that sleep duration was not a significant predictor of FA. In the light of the results of this study, the variables that predict FA are identified. In future studies, the study will contribute to the variables that need to be addressed in relation to FA.
