Application of angiotensin II receptor antagonist irbesartan in treatment of hypertension

Irbesartan is a new selective angiotensinⅡtype 1 receptor antagonist.Through blocking the combination of angiotensinⅡand its type 1 receptor,irbesartan displayed the protective effects on cardiovascular system.Irbesartan was found to be effective in lowering blood pressure and inhibiting left ventricular hypertrophy. It was also demonstrated that irbesartan had the renal protective effects and could reduce the progression of diabetic nephropathy.
