Influence of Alumina on the Quaternary-ammonium-type-alkaloid in Rhizoma Coptidis and Preparation

Objective: To study the influence of neutral alumina on the extracting and purification process with quaternary ammonium alkaloids. Methods: RP- HPLC method was applied for the determination of quaternary-ammonium-type-alkaloid in huang-lian shang-qing, yan-ke ning tablets, respectively prepared with alkaline, neutral alumina and without processing.Peak area relative loss rate was used to measure the impact of size. Results: Quaternary ammonium alkaloids in two preparations by different manufacturer production of neutral alumina content and untreated have significant decline, compared with those without preparation. Conclusion: Neutral alumina should be used with caution in analysis of quaternary-ammoniumtype-alkaloid; alkaline alumina was advised to use in the preparations containing of quaternary-ammonium-type-alkaloid..
