Lay Summary Atypical Teratoid/Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT) represents a rare brain tumor that unfortunately often occurs in very young children. While often deadly, intensive treatment consisting of surgery, high dose chemotherapy, and radiation has been shown to improve the chance of disease control and survival. Radiation is given as either directed to the primary brain tumor or to the whole brain and spine. However, directing radiation to the primary brain tumor is preferred due to long term side effects on brain development associated with whole brain radiation. This article reports on the radiation aspects of a prospective clinical trial where the majoriy of kids received focal brain radiation with very good control of the primary brain tumor.
