Supramolecular gels, in particular those formed by low-molecular compounds, offer unique opportunities in the field of catalysis. Catalytic low-molecular weight gels (LMWGs) are materials formed by the self-assembly of synthetically simple compounds bearing catalytic or pre-catalytic fragments into functional supramolecular materials. Those materials may find application in organocatalysis as well as metallocatalysis, either as a single component or, combined with other supramolecular entities, as a multifunctional material.
