Abstract A new type of synergistic effect between a metal oxide and Pt/Al2O3 was observed in the oxidation of NH3; N2 was selectively produced with a metal oxide–Pt/Al2O3 mixture, whereas the metal oxide with its own oxidized NH3 to NO, NO2 and N2O as well as N2.
