The inherent instability of dimethylformamide–water systems containing hydroxide ion

Aqueous dimethylformamide (DMF) solutions containing hydroxide ion are unstable, formate ion and dimethylamine being produced fairly rapidly even under mild conditions, with a maximum rate constant at ca. 30 mole% DMF.
