Objective To identify risk factors for refracture of cemented vertebral after percutaneous kyphoplasty(PKP), and to analyze its possible mechanism. Methods A retrospective analysis of 72 patients who underwent percutaneous kyphoplasty for osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture between January 2010 and July 2012 was conducted. All patients were classified into refracture group and non-refracture group according to cemented vertebral refracture or not after percutaneous kyphoplasty. Results All patients were followed up for 12-42 months, 24.5 months on average. The incidence of cemented vertebral refracture after percutaneous kyphoplasty was 15.3%(11/72). The intervertebral cleft(IVC) and bone mineral density-T scores were significant as a result of researching various factors related to vertebral refracture(P 0.05). Other factors were not significant(P 0.05). Conclusion Patients who had IVC preoperative magnetic resonance imaging and osteoporotic itself may be related to cemented vertebral refracture after percutaneous kyphoplasty.
