This paper discusses basic types of evidentiality in the Turkic languages, mainly focusing on the Turkic languages spoken in China. The framework suggested by Alexandra Y.Aikhenvald in her recent publications serves as the basis for identification of evidentiality systems, and meanwhile the paper consistently consults Lars Johanson's classification of the Turkic evidentiality system. The other aspects of Turkic evidentiality,e.g.evidentiality and genre, evidentiality and tense, rules of evidentiality parenthesis in identification of evidentiality markers and the combined use of the evidentiality markers, will be addresssed in separate papers.
