To improve the output power and the laser efficiency compared with common fiber Brillouin lasers,a small core photonic crystal fiber(PCF) based ring-cavity Brillouin fiber laser was presented. An erbium-doped fiber amplifier and an optical filter were added to the fiber ring, fiber ring loss was compensated and the stimulated emission of the Erbium-doped fiber were suppressed respectively.Experimental results show that the stable Brillouin laser is achieved by the fiber laser using 25 m small core PCF,and that the erbium-doped fiber amplifier in the fiber ring is the major energy source of the output laser.Compared with common single mode fiber, the small core PCF has higher non-linear coefficient and larger Brillouin gain, and is suitable for the gain medium of Brillouin fiber laser.
