Changes of interleukin-6 levels in maternal serum in preturm birth patients with premature rupture of membranes

Objective: To study the change and clinical significance of maternal serum interleukins-6(IL-6) levels in preturm birth patients with chorioamnionitis and premature rupture of membrane (PROM). Methods: 30 pregnant women with preturm birth premature rupture of membrane were included in study group and 20 normal pregnant women as control. Maternal serum IL-6 were measured by enzyme-labeled immunosorbent assay(ELISA). Chorioamnionitis was diagnosed histologically. Results: The serum of maternal IL-6 with histotogical chorioamnionitis showed a significant increased than those chorioamnionitis (P0.01). Conclusion: IL-6 in maternal serum is valuable clinical indices for indentification of chorioamnionitis in patients with PROM. Measurement of maternal serum IL-6 is a marker for screening histological chorioamnionitis PROM at term.
