摘要
This paper presents innovations in Liquid-Crystal-on-Silicon (LCoS) technology for augmented reality (AR) applications, focusing on reducing power consumption and improving image quality. We introduce zonal illumination using a mini- LED array to selectively light specific areas, enhancing contrast and minimizing the "gray box" effect while significantly cutting power usage. Additionally, we propose Ferroelectric LCoS (FLCoS) to achieve smaller pixel sizes and faster response time, reducing form factor and color breakup artifacts. Besides, we also showed the prototype images for both zonal illuminated LCoS engine and FLCoS with ultra small pixel size (1.5um).
