Abstract Polycrystalline (CeO1-xFx)4Ga2S5 has been synthesized via solid state reaction method and investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-visible absorption and transmission spectroscopy. With the doping concentration increasing, both the lattice volume and the bandgap of the material increase. Fluorine doping also facilitated the partial reduction of Ga3+ ions to Ga1+ oxidation state. Additionally, the degradation efficiency of the Rhodamine B (RhB) solution by F doping (CeO1-xFx)4Ga2S5 was significant enhanced compared to the parent compound, achieving a threefold increase in the degradation rate up to 50.1% at x=0.1. These findings indicate that (CeO1-xFx)4Ga2S5 is a promising candidate for applications in piezoelectric catalysis.
